‘This Isn’t a Place for You’ – Watch Us Prove Them Wrong

The maritime industry is one of the most demanding markets in the world. High operational costs, extreme environmental conditions, and the need for unwavering precision make it a challenging space for innovation. Yet, at Unmanned Dynamics, we thrive on these challenges.

Representing our underwater positioning system, AquaGrid, at Undersea Defence Technology (UDT) 2025 in Oslo was a significant milestone. This event brought together global leaders in undersea defense, and we were proud to stand among them, showcasing our vision for more reliable and efficient subsea navigation. The response to AquaGrid was encouraging, reinforcing the growing need for accurate, GPS-aided underwater positioning to support Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs).

Of course, breaking into this industry isn’t without its obstacles. One seasoned attendee even told me, "We’ve been here for 20 years building partnerships—this isn’t a place for you." That’s cute, but I’m going to have to say no to that idea. This is exactly the place for us. We are here to redefine underwater navigation, to bring fresh solutions to long-standing challenges, and to push the industry forward.

The maritime defense market is dominated by established giants like Kongsberg, Thales, and Saab, whose extensive resources and long-standing partnerships make it difficult for newcomers to gain a foothold. However, we believe that innovation, agility, and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of underwater navigation technology will allow us to carve out our own space in this competitive landscape.

Despite the complexities of the maritime market, we remain committed to advancing underwater navigation technology. Our next big step is water testing in late April. This will be a crucial phase in validating AquaGrid’s capabilities in real-world conditions, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in subsea positioning.

We know the road ahead won’t be easy, but innovation rarely is. The enthusiasm we received at UDT 2025 has only strengthened our resolve. Stay tuned as we move forward, bringing next-generation underwater positioning to life.
